Sheila Cooke Stancil, 74, of Middlesex, NC, passed away October 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 17, 1951, in Raleigh, NC, to the late Douglas Bryant Cooke and Lovie Liles Cooke.

Sheila found great joy in being near the water-whether at the beach, swimming, or boating. She loved to travel, especially with her family, and was deeply devoted to her grandchildren. Her prayers for them were constant and full of love.

A caring and supportive mother, Sheila was also known for her warm heart, her generous spirit, and her country cooking. She loved her church and the community she found there, which remained an important part of her life. Sheila had a lively spirit who adored music, dancing, and karaoke.

Sheila is survived by her loving children, Dawn Carter Griffin (Reggie Peedin), Richard Bryant Stancil (Jessica Ruhl Stancil), and Eliza Douglas Stancil (Kevin Michael Reece); her grandchildren, Tyler Shane Griffin, Heather Dawn Griffin, William "Brooks" Stancil, Ashlynn Lovie Stancil, Aubrey Nicole Stancil, Emma Lynn Stancil, and Matthew West Grady; and one great-granddaughter, Emery Layne Carroll. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, who passed in 2014, John West Stancil; her brother, Douglas Barbee Cooke; and her sister, Connie Kay Wood.
