Sheila Laverne (Ponder) Winters, age 74, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023 at Integrity Health Care in Marion, Illinois.
Sheila was born July 30, 1949 in Herrin, Illinois, a daughter of Ameul Leroy "A.L." and Ruby Maurine (Givens) Ponder. Born and raised in Southern Illinois, Sheila spent two years in London working for Russ Berry. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri and Dallas, Texas before returning back home to Southern Illinois. She loved traveling, cooking and entertaining and enjoyed painting. Sheila loved her cat Ashley, who preceded her in death. Sheila was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan.
A special thank you to her kind and caring neighbors, Linda, Betty, Phyliss and Terry. Your care and compassion is greatly appreciated by the family.
She is survived by three siblings- Sharon Bundren (Gary), Cheryl Whitehead, and Michael Ponder (Florence); nephew- Darren Whitehead, nephew- Michael Bundren (Melissa), nephew- Jeff Bundren (Patty), nephew- Andy Ponder (Ashley), several great nieces and nephews; and dearest friend- Sherry Harbord.
She is preceded in death by her parents, A.L. and Maurine (Givens) Ponder.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 4th, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Memorial services will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024, 12:00 PM at Blue Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Simmons Cemetery in Creal Springs.
