She was born September 27, 1937, in Buncombe County to the late Ewell and Bessie Banks Garrison.
Shelby was a 1955 graduate of North Buncombe High School and still kept up with her local classmates. After retirement, Shelby grew very passionate about genealogy. She spent years tracing her ancestors and sharing that history with her family. Shelby loved to garden and be outdoors. She also had a life-long enjoyment of traveling with her family and friends.
