Shelby Anne Stroup, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on September 26, 2025. She was born March 1939 in Kentucky to R. Jefferson Taylor and Ruby Henson Taylor.
Anne's life was defined by her deep faith, which guided her to volunteer with prison ministries, Christian counseling, and helping out in the Chaplain's office at the hospital. She attended Women's Bible Study Fellowship for many years. She had been a member of several local churches. She always asked how she could pray for you. She was devoted to her family, sharing an especially strong bond with her daughter and son, always willing to fight their corner defending them and not allowing others to criticize her children. She was always a tower of strength and sometimes, a force of nature. Loyalty to her children and close friends was one of her defining values.
Anne started working at Block's downtown Indy in cosmetics. She then transferred to the Lazarus Castleton store and finished her career in fragrances at Macy's in Greenwood Park Mall. She was the recipient of numerous customer service awards and many loyal customers who returned again and again.
Anne is survived by her daughter, Julie Stroup; son, Jeff Stroup; and granddaughter, Jacqueline Stroup.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Stroup. Her parents and her siblings; James Taylor, Sue Carpenter, and Charlotte Taylor.
A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 10:00 am at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted to G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN.
