Sheldon Richard "Dick" Young

Sheldon Richard "Dick" Young, born on March 7, 1935, in Springfield, Ohio, peacefully passed away at the Life Care Center of Hendersonville on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the age of 90.
Dick's life was a testament to hard work, faith, and love for family. A retired computer engineer from General Electric, he continued to share his knowledge and passion by teaching at Blue Ridge Community College, inspiring countless students along the way.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dick was known for his melodious voice and love for singing. He found great joy in being part of a gospel quartet and shared his faith through music. His dedication to his faith was evident in his active membership at Refuge Baptist Church in Hendersonville and his past service as a deacon at Maranatha Baptist Church in East Flat Rock.
Alongside his beloved wife Mary Alice, with whom he shared a beautiful journey until her passing in 2020, Dick traveled across 48 states with Christian Tours, creating memories that enriched their lives and those of their loved ones.
Preceded in death by his parents, Sheldon Albert Young and Jennie Hickman Young; his cherished wife, Mary Alice; his daughter, Tamra Lynn Rogers; and his son, Greg Layne Young, Dick is survived by his son, Sheldon Keith Young; three grandsons, Jacob Rogers, Justin Rogers (LaShea), and Cody Rogers (Christen); and two great-grandchildren, Maddilyn Rogers and Colbie Rogers.
A celebration of Dick's remarkable life will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, to share memories and offer condolences. Dick will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, where his legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him.
