Sherman Edward Mize, Sr., age 61 of Somerset passed from this life on Saturday, June 7, 2025 after an extended illness.
He was born on May 10, 1964 in Somerset, Kentucky, son of the late Edward J. Mize and Lucy M. Bates Mize. Sherman worked as a mail sorter for the United States Postal Service for a number of years prior to his illness. He was of sports cards, playing video games in his leisure time and spending time with his family and friends. On July 5, 1985 Sherman married Ida M. Mize and they shared 38 years of marriage until her death in 2023. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Sherman was a strong willed, kindhearted and generous person and will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons; Sherman E. Mize, Jr., (Leslie Taylor) of Somerset, Kentucky and Harley (Kasey) Mize of East Bernstadt, Kentucky, two grandchildren; Alexxus Richardson and Emory Mize, one aunt; Carolyn Meece of Somerset, Kentucky and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 12, 2025 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co & Crematory. A
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 pm with Bro. Kevin Price Officiating. Interment will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented
