Cumberland, MD- Sherrell Virginia Wharton, 91, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center/Frostburg Village.
Born July 9, 1934 in Cumberland, MD, Ms. Wharton was the daughter of the late Richard Parsons and Rosella (Keefer) Brinkman. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Harry Melvin Wharton; a brother: Joseph Parsons; and a nephew: Mike Kegg.
Sherrell was a graduate of Fort Hill High School Class of 1952 and was a former employee of Cumberland Savings Bank. A homemaker, she was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the McKinley Chapter #12 O.E. S. She was an amazing cook, loved to sew and enjoyed gardening. Hospitality was her love language.
Sherrell is survived by her daughter: Diane Katz and husband Tracy; her grandsons: Aaron Katz and Dan Katz; her brothers: Ed Parsons and wife Pat; and Rich Parsons and wife Dreama; and her nephews: Mark Parsons; Dale Parsons, wife Tammy, Steve Parsons; Steve Wharton and wife Rosemary.
Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD (www.adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Harold McClay, Jr., officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Rocky Gap at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in her name to: Christ United Methodist Church, 336 Race Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation for all the care and compassion provided as well as to Ed, Pat, and Steve for making it possible for Sherrell to live independently as long as possible.
