Sherry Kay Fagala, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, was born on September 22, 1952, in Ulysses, Kansas, to Buford Maloy Walters and Wilma Burnadean Asbill Walters. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 15, 2024.
Sherry spent her childhood in Ulysses, graduating from high school in 1970. It was in the third grade that she met her future husband, Terry Lee Fagala. They dated through their high school years and married on May 22, 1971, at the age of 18. After one year at Garden City Community College, Sherry entered the workforce as a secretary while Terry pursued his degree at Panhandle State University.
In 1974, they moved to the family farm south of Gage, Oklahoma, where they built a loving life together, raising three daughters: Tara Kay (1976), Tanya Lee (1977), and Tina Renee (1981). Sherry was a devoted mother and homemaker, nurturing her daughters through all of life's adventures. She enjoyed gardening, watching OU sports and OKC Thunder basketball, playing the piano, singing, and cooking-especially her family's favorite chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and homemade gravy. Sherry also held various part-time jobs, including substitute teacher, teacher's aide, and bank teller at Oklahoma State Bank in Gage.
Sherry's faith was central to her life. She invited Jesus into her heart at the age of eight and shared that love with everyone she met. A member of the First Baptist Church in Gage, she served as the church pianist, song leader, Vacation Bible School worker, Sunday School teacher, and GA leader alongside her lifelong friend, Ellen Orcutt.
One of Sherry's greatest joys was becoming a grandmother (Mimi). Her first grandson, Drew Douglas Taylor, was born in 2005, followed by Braydyn Mathew (2008) and Brynden Lee (2010). She also welcomed bonus grandsons, Nathen Hunt and Jaylon Cummings, into her heart. Sherry loved sharing stories about her grandsons and took immense pride in their accomplishments.
The family holds dear many fond memories, especially of Terry's playful teasing of Sherry. A memorable Christmas involved Terry giving her a lump of coal before revealing her real present, a testament to their playful love. Their family gatherings were filled with laughter, often sparked by Terry's signature line, "Yes, Dear!"
Sherry passed from this life surrounded by her loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents Buford and Burnadean Walters, and nephew, Micah Maloy Walters. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Terry Fagala of Gage, OK; daughters Tara Fagala of Midwest City, OK, Tanya Cummings of The Dalles, OR, and Tina Hunt of Alva, OK; son-in-law Matt Hunt; beloved grandsons Drew Taylor, Jaylon Cummings, Braydyn Hunt, Brynden Hunt, and Nathen Hunt; brother Mark Walters and wife Janna of Midwest City, OK; brother-in-law Jerry Fagala and wife Tami of Luther, OK; nephews Joshua Fagala, Tyler Fagala (great niece Kate Fagala), and Joshua Walters (wife Kelsy, with great niece and nephew Kellyn and Breckyn Walters); nieces Krista Fagala and Alisha Dugger (husband Montana, with great nephews Maverick and Ace Dugger); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Sherry's love, kindness, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
