Sherry L Finnerty of Scott Township passed into God’s arms on Friday, December 27th, 2024. Sherry is the beloved wife of Michael J Finnerty and the loving mother of Kelli A Finnerty, Michael J Finnerty Jr (Rebecca L Finnerty), and Lynne L Finnerty (Steven Derr). Sherry is the sister of John Skonier (Meg Skonier) and Louise Skonier (Andy Stump). She loved watching her grandchildren - Alyson, Emma, Connor, Owen, Claire, Clayton, and her great-grandaughter Reign in their activities and adventures. She is the aunt of many nieces and nephews. Sherry is the daughter of John and Frances Skonier who preceded her in death.
Sherry graduated from Snowden (South Park) High School where she was a majorette and played flute in the band. She went on to earn her BS in Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, followed by her MS at the University of Pittsburgh. She became a math teacher at Penn Hills and later at CCAC. Her post-teaching career led her to Highmark, where she worked in pension benefits. Sherry later served as a CCD teacher.
She was a parishioner of Saints Simon and Jude church (St. Raphael The Archangel Parish) where she was a member of Christian Mothers and The Ladies of Charity organizations. She also frequently volunteered at the church in various capacities.
Sherry loved to garden, solve puzzles, and could not miss the nightly news. She enjoyed movies, folk music, tennis, and traveling with her husband on bus tours. A talented seamstress, she sewed her own wedding gown using skills passed on to her by her mother. Sherry’s gift for playing the piano even allowed her to record an album while in high school. She was a hard-worker and a true friend. Sherry will be deeply missed and live in the memories of her family and friends.
