Sherwood C. Durnell

Sherwood C. Durnell, 77, of Lakewood, passed away April 3, 2025, at UPMC Chautauqua.
He was born March 8, 1948, in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late Claude and Helen Butts Durnell.
Sherwood was a 1964 graduate of Jamestown High School. He continued his education at Jamestown Community College and achieved his associates degree.
Sherwood proudly served in the military during the Vietnam era from 1969-1971. Particularly, he was active in South Korea as a medic in the MASH unit.
Before his retirement he worked as a registered nursing supervisor at The Resource Center for several years.
Sherwood was a loving and caring father and grandfather. He enjoyed collecting coins, knives, and tools of any kind. Woodworking held Sherwood's passionate attention as well as loving cars. He was a member of The United Methodist Church in Lakewood, the VFW, and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.
Surviving is his fiancée, Betty Schiefer, whom he loved; his two sons: Todd Durnell of Harbor Creek, PA and Tyler Durnell of Cincinnati, OH; his grandchildren Ethan, Eleanor and Connor Durnell; and several cousins.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents as well as aunts and uncles.
The funeral for Sherwood will be at 2pm on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation for two hours prior to the service from 12-2pm Monday at Lind's.
