Shirley "Colleen" Berkstresser, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the home of her loved ones in Perry, KS. She lived most of her life in Neodesha and Coffeyville, KS.
"Colleen" was born February 3, 1937 on the Schnoor family farm, south of LaFountain, to Arthur and Fern (McGinnis) Schnoor. She was a 1955 graduate of Neodesha High School and attended many classes at Independence Community College and Coffeyville Community College. She was an excellent wedding and birthday cake baker. She loved arts and crafts, including porcelain dolls, china painting, hand and machine knitting, and all her loved ones received her handmade quilts.
She married Dwight Arthur "Buzz" Berkstresser, Jr. on Friday the 13th of January, 1956. They were married 68 years before his passing on September 25, 2023. Together they owned and operated Dairy Queens in Coffeyville and Neodesha for over 50 years before retiring.
"Colleen" is survived by four sons, Bill Berkstresser, Phillip Berkstresser, Joe (Valerie) Berkstresser, and Steven (Kelinda) Berkstresser, one daughter, Sharolyn Marvin, four grandsons, Zac Berstresser, Jarod Berkstresser, Bradley Berkstresser, and Tarik Berkstresser, four granddaughters, Megan Berkstresser, Alisha Goodson, Amanda Foster, and Amy Weber, one brother, Richard (Donna) Schnoor and a sister, Judy (Jim) Bishop. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Artha Shirleen Berkstresser, and a brother, John Schnoor.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Bethel Church of God in Neodesha. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 AM, before Service at the Church. Burial will be at Bethel-Shelley Cemetery. A Thanksgiving dinner will follow at the Church.
Memorials may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital, St. Louis, MO, in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 602, Oskaloosa, KS, 66066.
