Shirley Janet Briggs of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away on the 4th of July 2022 in Bethany, OK. She was born December 16, 1936, in Malden, Massachusetts and attended the public schools of Malden. Shirley attended and graduated from Boston Beauty College on July 15, 1954 and practiced this trade for 58 years retiring in 2012.
Shirley married James Keefe on January 23, 1955, and they made their early home in Billerica, Massachusetts, later moving to California. Into this union was born two children, Sandra, April 30, 1957, and Shawn, October 6, 1958. They divorced a few years later.
Shirley married Harry Briggs October 30,1962 and they then made their home in Edmond, Oklahoma. This family was blessed by the arrival of a son Scott Nov. 16, 1963. They divorced later. Shirley loved to build very ornate miniature doll houses and won many awards for her work. In 1992 she won First Place in the Oklahoma State Fair competition.
For many years Shirley was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church and especially enjoyed the fellowship of the Salty Seniors who were known for their kazoo music. A special church friend of hers was Baptist Minister, Homer Williams.
Preceding her in death were her parents Carl and Edna Bertil and three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Skerrcy, Mrs. Mae Ellis and Mrs. Marjorie Corrigan. Also, one brother, Richard Bertil preceded her as did her two sons, Shawn, and Scott.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sandra Donahue and two granddaughters, Sophia Tyre and Stacy Cannon. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Seth, Caleb, Emilia, and Ryan Cannon.
A come-and-go visitation will be held Sunday, July 17, 2022, from 10:00AM-1:00PM at Crawford Family Funeral Service in Edmond, OK, for those wishing to pay their final respects to Shirley.
