Shirley A. Bumgarner
Whittier - Shirley Ashe Kilby Bumgarner, 80, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Morning Star Assisted Living.
She was born in Jackson County and a daughter of the late Cornelious and Ethel King Ashe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband, Vernell Kilby; second husband, Ray Bumgarner; one son, Steve Kilby; a brother, Harl Ashe; and four sisters, Gerlene Ashe, Pauline Kalin, Opal Bumgarner, and Barbara Miller. She was a member of Whittier Baptist Church and worked at Skyland Care Center for several years. she then worked for Home Health for many, many years until she fell and got hurt and then had to retire.
She is survived by two brothers, Homer Ashe (Mary) and Cory Ashe, Jr. (Peggy); and two sisters, Evelina Davis and Elaine Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2024 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Reverend Mike Farmer and Reverend Eddie Stillwell officiating. Burial will follow at Balsam Grove Cemetery at Caney Fork. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Dustin Cope, Eddie Bumgarner, Casey Jones, Terry Ashe, Jimmy Houston, and Brandon (Mary's son).
