Shirley Pope Carpenter

Rock Hill, SC – Shirley Pope Carpenter passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026 at the age of 80.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Roddey (Ken), her grandson, Seth Roddey (Jennings), and her great-grandchildren, Hadley and Hayes. Shirley is also survived by her brother, Earl Pope, whom she was instrumental in helping to raise.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, James Douglas Carpenter, her parents, Earl and Dorothy Pope, and two brothers Larry Pope, and Nathan Pope.

Shirley dedicated over 25 years to the textile industry prior to her retirement from Black and Decker, after 12 years of service. She came out of retirement for a few years to work with Doug at Carowinds. They could often be seen enjoying lunch together on their breaks.

A committed wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Shirley made a lasting impact on those who knew her. Her love for family will be remembered as she was always available for visits or a need, and she took great joy in organizing activities for her grandson.

While she will be missed, we know she now rests in the arms of Jesus and is reunited with those that went before her. The family is thankful for the outpouring of love and support during this season.

The family will welcome visitors this Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 3:30pm – 4:30pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd., Rock Hill. Burial will be private.
