Shirley Ann Dailey, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, in New Albany, Indiana. Born on September 12, 1942, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Shirley was known for her unwavering dedication to her family, who were the joy of her life.
Throughout her life, Shirley embraced the role of caregiver with immense love and commitment. She took great pride in creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband, Karl Dailey Sr., their daughters, Deanna and Danette Dailey, and their son, Karl "Ken" (Duane Wise) Dailey, Jr. Shirley’s legacy extends through her many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom carried her spirit of generosity and compassion.
Beyond her family commitments, Shirley actively engaged with her community. She was a proud lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3281 and the American Legion Post 28 Bonnie Sloan, where her passion for volunteering, particularly at the VA Hospital, shone through. Shirley's interests included crafting, karaoke, line dancing, shopping, and enjoying her time at the casino, but above all, it was her family gatherings that filled her heart with joy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arlo Sr. and Alice Fanning, and her siblings: Arlo Harold Fanning, Jr., Darlyne Rama, Gloria J. Jackson, Wanda Earl, and Geraldine Daugherty. The influence of these family members on Shirley's life and her warm spirit will be remembered fondly.
A visitation to honor Shirley's life will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. Following the visitation, a memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM, allowing friends and family to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and to celebrate the indelible impact she made on all those fortunate enough to know her.
Shirley Ann Dailey will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of her loved ones and the community she served so lovingly.
The family requests that contributions in Shirley’s memory be made to Toys for Tots.
