The family spent time in several Florida towns before settling in St. Petersburg at the end of WWII, where Shirley spent the remainder of her life. She was 94.

In 1985 she became a published author for her work of fiction, Love Needs No Reason, and went on to publish two more works, Skyway Down and a children's book, Scarlett Red. Shirley was a wonderful friend to many, a loving and charismatic matriarch to her family, and a passionate supporter of her beloved town of St. Petersburg. Her artistic and creative talent, along with her loving friends and family, are her legacy. She was well loved and will always be missed.

Working as a model for her in Belk-Lindsey ads and commercials. My husband knew her through the advertising community and we all bonded as friends. We stayed in touch through the years and when I was in FL visiting in Sep of 2023 Shirley and I went out to lunch and got caught up on all the news about out families. She was a beautiful human being, king, compassionate, and talented. She will be missed deeply, but never forgotten, and always loved.

From my earliest memories, your mother, my beloved Aunt Shirley, was an important part of my life. From the wedding photographs of her as my mom's maid of honor, to attending the Peacock's New Year's Eve celebrations with the delicious Scottish pies, these and so many more memories I will cherish forever. Thank you for sharing this incredibly talented and loving woman with me. I will miss her always. Prayers and hugs to Alison and Robyn.

Shirley and my mother, Mary, were best pals and had so much fun together both at work and socializing. They included me often as I was growing up so I got to see first hand what friendship between two beautiful and funny women could be. Shirley was a rock for our family when our father died, bringing her famous Mother Dowling´s soup and boosting my mother´s morale. Her parties were always fun and the food was fabulous! My deepest condolences to Robyn, Allison and the rest of their family.

Shirley and my mother worked together for many years at Belk Lindsey. Shirley was a true and loyal friend to our entire family. We had many Thanksgiving and Easter dinners together at SPYC. Her Christmas parties were always a wonderful kickoff to the holidays. And she kindly forgave me when I spilled a glass of red wine on her at Outback Steakhouse!

Shirley was a delight with our conversations. We would laugh at life. She taught me about my children and their astrology signs and was spot on. She was so artistic and her family carries on with her legacy. My condolences to Robyn and her family.
