Shirley Joann "Jody" Eyerly, age 93, a longtime resident of Kansas City, KS, passed away on Thursday, August 8th, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family at her home. Visitation will be 10-11am, followed by the funeral at 11am, both on Wednesday, August 14th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS. Burial will follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., Kansas City, KS 66112.
Jody was born on September 20, 1930 in Kansas City, MO, one of seven children born to Henry and Eva (Cramer) Wagenknecht. She grew up in the Bonner Springs area and graduated from Bonner Springs High School in the Class of 1948. Most of her career, she worked as an Executive Secretary in the Real Estate Department at Western Auto Supply Company headquarters in the crossroads area of Kansas City, MO. Jody married Fred Eyerly on October 18, 1972 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, and together they made their home in Kansas City, KS where they continued to raise both of their families. She was a member of the Grinter Chapel UMC and later Trinity UMC, where she was a member of the UMW and active in the office. Later she and Fred taught Sunday School together for over eleven years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Jane Vickers, Jackie Smith, and Theresa Bennett; one son Danny Lightle; grandsons Cooper Lightle and Brock Eyerly, and her first husband Richard "Dick" Lightle.
Survivors include her husband Fred B. Eyerly of the home; children Diane Bohr and husband Joe of Lenexa, KS, Jeff Eyerly and wife Debbie of Lansing, KS, Kenneth Eyerly of Baltimore, MD, Brenda Vance and husband Tim of Olathe, KS, and daughter-in-law Maggie Lightle of Lenexa, KS; siblings James Wagner of Olathe, KS, Linda Breidenthal and husband Ronnie of Lenexa, KS, and Tim Wagner of Overland Park, KS; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
