Shirley C. Groft, 78, of Hanover, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at home. She was the loving wife of the late Richard H. Groft who died October 16, 2005.
Born January 22, 1944 in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Mary M. (Altland) Lawyer.
Mrs. Groft was a switchboard operator at Hanover Hospital for many years and later worked at MasterBrand, Littlestown. She attended Hanover First Church of God, was an avid gardener, enjoyed walking and loved dancing in the rain. Her favorite moments were those spent with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Lori Rudy and husband Paul, York, Tanya Barker, York and Todd Groft and wife Rachel Elliott, Arendstville and grandchildren, Tyler Rudy, Madelyn Groft and Ava Groft.
She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Utz and brothers, John, Jr., Raymond, Charles, Floyd, Roy and Jerry.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 2:30 PM at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover with Pastor Dan Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends and share memories on Monday from 1:30 PM until the start of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Paul's Dubs Cemetery, Hanover. Serving as Pallbearers will be Todd Groft, Tanya Barker, Lori Rudy, Paul Rudy and Tyler Rudy.
