Shirley Atkins Hartman, 72, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Tuesday March 12, 2024. She was born on May 21, 1951,to David and Edith 'Edee' Atkins. They moved to Jacksonville, FL in the 1950s for warmer weather and to grow their family. Shirley was the oldest of five children, Charles 'Chuck' Atkins, John Atkins, Bethany Atkins and Debra 'Debbie' Atkins.
Shirley attended Wolfson High School, Class of 1969 and was a very proud Alumni. After graduation, she moved to Gainesville, FL where she attended the University of Florida. Sarasota, FL was her next home where she enjoyed the beach life for over 20 years and that is also where her daughter, Casey 'Cece' Hartman Nietz was born.
In 1994, the move was made back to be closer to her family, Jacksonville, FL. Family was very important to her and she was at every family event from Easter, to the Atkins Cookie Day. She never missed a holiday gathering and reveled in the traditions of our family.
She was also a very talented artist. If you were her friend, there is a good chance you have received a personalized birthday or holiday card from her at some point. She was the reason behind her daughter's artistic path. She also began instilling that artistic talent in her grandson Henrik.
Shirley loved being outside, especially at the beach. She loved walking and watching the sun rise, letting the sun tan her skin and smelling the salt air. The only things she loved more than the beach were spending time with her daughter and grandson.

So sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. We Gerberichs in Pennsylvania met Shirley and Cece about 18 years ago at our Gerberich Reunion. We will include Shirley's name as part of our Memorial service at the next Reunion August 4, 2024. Shirley helped us immensely by increasing our mailing list AND digitalized the entire book, "History of the Gerberich Family in America" 1613-1925, 287 pages. Blessings and Prayers to all the Family.

I am sad to hear of Shirley´s passing from this earth. I, along with many others, will miss her. She was my neighbor and friend. We enjoyed sharing art and craft ideas and stories about loved ones. I am happy for her to know that she is fee of illness and the conditions on this earth that hampered her talents. I am assured, from knowing her, that she is reviling in the peace and glory of her trip back to Heaven where she will watch over all she loved. She was a sweet, talented, Christian woman that I feel blessed to know.
