                                                                               Shirley Mae Hoffer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Hoffer on June 8th at the age of 99. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 3rd, 1926. Her parents were Emery and Catherine (Smith) Ford. She was born during the Depression years and her parents traveled across the country looking for work. She lived in many cities until they settled in Kelso, Washington in her teens. She graduated from Kelso High School in 1944. Being the oldest child, Shirley helped raise her four siblings, Jack Ford (Peggy), Lois Brown (Del), Richard Ford, and Mary Ford. Shirley and her family moved to Raymond after she graduated, where her father opened Ford Electric. She worked at the local bank and met Robert Hoffer. They were married on January 8, 1947 and settled on Park Avenue in Raymond. This marriage gave her many new and loving relatives. The Hoffer and Totten relations gave her many joys and memories along with the Ford and Brown clans. Robert and Shirley had three children, Kenneth, Nancy and Elaine. Shirley was a stay at home mother, but also gave her time and effort to volunteering in the classroom of her children, the voting board, St. Lawrence Catholic Church and she babysat for many local families. She was always a happy individual that never wanted to bother anyone. Everyone she got to know always became family to her. She had numerous acquaintances that called her "Mom" and "Grandma Shirley".

Shirley is survived by two daughters: Nancy (Ron) Lewis and Elaine Klube. Her beloved grandchildren include Tom Tomtan (Tammy), Kristy Balderson (Dave), Danielle Regidor, Robert Hoffer (Carolyn), Timothy Bonneprise, Jeffery Bonneprise, Sean Bonneprise, Sonny Lewis, Tony Lewis, Brandi Lewis, and Kristyna Gill (Paul). She was proud to have 15 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.

As per her request, she will be buried alongside her husband at Menlo Fernhill Cemetery in a private family graveside funeral.

Shirley left the following note:

To All:

Shed a tear if you must, but then smile as you remember all the love and laughs we have shared.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be given to her grandson's non-profit disability organization, KoKua Services. All donations go to supporting their inclusive art program, Hummingbird Studio. You can find out more information and a donation link at hummingbirdstudio.org.
