Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelsons Cremation & Funeral Services - Gaylord on Feb. 20, 2026.
Shirley Poll-Hoffman entered Glory on February 18, 2026, where she was greeted by her late husband Gord, son Robert, daughter-in-law Lynda, stepson Tim, brother Seymour, sister Wilma, but most importantly her Lord and Savior.
Shirley was born June 25th, 1936, the youngest of 3 kids born to John and Alice Bylsma in
Grand Rapids, Michigan. Shirley graduated from Christian High and later taught school at Beaverdam Christian. In 1956, she married her husband Gord, and together they raised 4 children, settling in Grandville, Michigan. In 1976, with her kids all in school, Shirley went to Nursing School and spent many years working as an LPN, a career she loved, caring for and nursing others.
In 1995, Shirley remarried Robert Hoffman and moved to
Charlevoix, Michigan. While living in Charlevoix, she became a part of the community where she met many amazing friends who were very special to her and Robert.
Shirley was very outgoing and never met a stranger, often striking up conversations in any situation. She loved her family dearly. When the kids were young, she never missed a sporting event, even while working. She loved watching her grandson play baseball and was considered the team grandma. Some of her favorite things in life were summers at Big Whitefish Lake, Michigan football games, golfing, reading, her many dogs throughout her life, and her winters spent on Hutchinson Island, Florida. She was an amazing cook and loved to prepare meals for everyone to enjoy. Shirley was a giver; she found joy in doing things for others and loved spoiling those around her.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Hoffman of
Charlevoix, Michigan, her children, Rod Poll of Port St Lucie, Florida, Jodi Poll of Holland, Michigan, and Sandy (John) Kraklau of St. Joseph, Michigan. Her grandchildren: Randy Wierenga (Rona) of Grandville, Michigan, Rob Poll of
Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kristi Poll of Charleston South Carolina, Jacob Kraklau of Owosso, Michigan, Alexa (Hunter) Kraklau of Holland Michigan, brother-in-law Dennis (Jari) Poll of Stuart Florida, brother in-law Fred Hoffman of Petoskey Michigan, as well as the many Hoffman grandkids. ALL her grandchildren were so special to her.
The family would like to thank Kelly Hengesh, Lisa Smith, and Debbie Berry for the amazing care and, more importantly, love and friendship they gave Shirley. Her 'Friday Morning' crew, which she so loved and looked forward to every week. Also, thanks to Dr. Jan Talmo for all the support and good care she gave.
