Shirley Jean Joest, age 89 of Greenwood, Indiana passed away on Saturday morning, March 2, 2024.

Shirley was born on November 10, 1934 in Evansville, Indiana, a daughter of John F. and Winona (Olberding) Siscel.

Shirley grew up in Evanville, Indiana where she graduated from Reitz High School in 1952. Right after high school she married John and upon his return from war they began their family. Shirley enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother to her six children until the very last entered school. She then began working at Lakeside Elementary School cafeteria until her retirement many years later. She found great pleasure in giving back to her Catholic Church, spending time with her Grandchildren and was a proud member of organizations like Knights of Columbus. She and John enjoyed traveling together and enjoyed many trips both domestically and abroad. Post retirement she filled her leisure moments  playing cards or grabbing breakfast/lunch out with friends, shopping and rarely passing a garage sale or clearance aisle without stopping, playing Bingo and visiting her family in Evansville.

She married John Bernard Joest on November 4, 1952. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1999.

She is survived by four children: Jennifer A. Gibson of Whiteland, Indiana, Jerry L. (wife Kathy) Joest of Carmel, Indiana, Julia G. Joest of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jason P. (wife Amy) Joest of Greenwood, Indiana.

Nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.

She is preceded in death by two sons: John Bernard Joest Jr., and Jeffery D. Joest.
