Raymond Louis Joest, 92, of Evansville, passed way Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on November 30, 1931 in Evansville to Edmund M. and Alma (Relleke) Joest.
Raymond retired from Data Business, formerly Adams Office Machines, in 1994. He was a graduate of Memorial High School and attended Evansville College and Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He served in the US Navy, was a member of V.F.W. Post 1114 and was a former member of the Catholic Theatre Guild. He was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral. Ray was very creative and enjoyed woodworking and fixing up the family home. He enjoyed listening to marching band music, playing cards and doing puzzles. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan.
He is survived by son, Michael E. Joest (Laura); daughter, Laura Ann Hedges (John); grandchildren, Lauryn Joest, Elizabeth Gurnow (Corey), Hannah Parker (Matthew), Melissa Baker (Terry), Tiffaney Medicis (Joey) and Brandon Hedges; great-grandson, Graham Olberding; seven additional great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund Joest and Alma (Relleke) Joest; his wife of 51 years, Dorothy (Smith) Joest; brother, Richard E. Joest; and granddaughter-in-law, Shana Hedges.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. Visitation will continue Thursday, August 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m.
Entombment will be in St Joseph Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or Sisters of St. Benedict, 802 E. 10th St., Ferdinand, IN 47532.
