Shirley Nadine Lewis Hopson, age 87, of Burnsville, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 6th, 2025, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Arvil and Leatha Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Norman Hopson; brother, Bobby Gene Lewis; sisters: Maxine Penland, Kathleen Ryhmer and Barbara Trotter.
A devout Christian, Nadine attended Little Creek Holiness Church. She loved the Lord, and taught her children to honor God and to keep His commandments. She was a friend to everyone and loved God's people. She opened her home to visiting preachers and their wives to stay during revivals and visits. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved being a homemaker and enjoyed working in her flowers until her health declined.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children; daughters: Sandra Gregory and husband, Ronnie, of Burnsville, Donna Harrison and husband, Mark, of the South Toe Community, and Norma Hopson of Burnsville; and a son, Forrest Hopson of Burnsville; sisters: Evelyn Pritchard of Morganton and Sheila Taylor of Burnsville; brother, Arvil Lewis, Jr. and wife, Linda, of the Little Creek Community; grandchildren: Brandon Gregory, Jeremy Gregory and wife, Jasmine, David Bailey and wife, Kim, and Emily Harrison; and a great-granddaughter, Gracie Bailey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 10th, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Bro. Lou Franklin will officiate. Private burial will follow in the Arvil Lewis Cemetery on Little Creek. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the services and, at other times, will be at the home.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and love to the nurses of Compassionate Care WNC for the wonderful care and devotion shown to Nadine during her illness. Memorial donations may be made to Compassionate Care WNC at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714, or to the American Cancer Society at PO Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.
