Shirley Lindley Obituary
Shirley Lee Johnson Lindley, God's faithful servant, went home to meet her heavenly father, Friday, July 18, 2025 with her family beside her. She was the wife of the late Gerald Van Lindley, and the daughter of the late John Marvin Johnson and Minnie Lee Malpass Johnson.
A native of Columbus County, she moved to Alamance County when she was six. She was married to her husband Gerald for forty-nine years. She retired from UNC Hospitals Department of Pharmacy. Shirley was a lifelong member of Moore's Chapel Baptist Church. She worked in the nursery, went on mission trips, and taught the youth group for over 50 years. She catered to her church family and friends, always lending a helping hand. She loved cooking with her church family for Wednesday night meals. Shirley used her talents for cooking and event planning to catering special events and weddings for those in her community. Shirley loved kids. She opened her home to foster children for decades and cared for them like they were her own. Shirley never met a stranger and her love for doing God's work will truly be missed by her family, friends, and her church. She was the matriarch of her family hosting Sunday lunch and making sure she had quality time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Jamie Lamm and husband Jeff and Jessi Perez and boyfriend, Cole McAdams; sons, Greg Lindley and wife Toni and Michael Harlowe Lindley and girlfriend, Susan Hudson; grandchildren Stacey Lee Walker and husband Cody, Brock Lindley, Justin Lamm, and Lacie Lamm; great grandchild, Joy Lee Walker; sister, Beulah Mooneyham; sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Betty Sue Johnson; brother-in-law, Harry Lindley and wife Brenda; sister-in-law, Joann Lindley, as well as many loving nieces and nephews, and her grand dog, Bubba. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson, Joseph Frederick Leitch III; sister, Eleanor Whitt; and brothers, James Johnson, William Johnson, and Marvin Johnson.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Moore's Chapel Baptist Church. The burial will take place at the church cemetery after the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham and at other times at the home.
