Shirley Mae (Stuart) Marshall was born November 1st 1940, youngest child and only daughter to Ernie and Lillie Stuart. She had three great brothers Dick, Fred, and Jim. All those and Joe have preceded her in death.
She was a cheerleader, companion, cook, lifetime friend of many many good people she treasured, sister to the Stuart boys, daughter to Ernie and Lillie, mother to Julie and Dan, tender to grandkids, bride and queen to Joe. She knew how to make do in life and did it with a smile and her projects came out with a shine of pride. She didn't just help instead she was one to dive in deep and for the long haul. She didn't just ask you how you're doing, instead she looked you in the eyes and shared the goings on of hearts. She had joy and laughter and hard work rolled into her life recipe.
Shirley had a treasure of patience and pound of attitude adjustment just for Joe. She loved him like the good Lord meant for it to be. She was a gem, and she loved her jewelry.
Shirley married Joe Marshall 62 years ago as of last month. June 14, 1959 was a warm 114 degree day. They always lived somewhat close to the Blunt home where they shared their last days together. It originally was the retirement home for her mom and dad (Ernie and Lillie). So many family pictures were taken in the yard under that big old tree.
They loved to dance and the chores got done while listening to kicking country. Camping by the river was always fun. A Canadian trip in their makeover bus was a great memory. Everything they had was modest and yet more than enough in a prided self restored condition.
Fifi was the angry dog and Micky was her lap cat. Value Village was her gig. Everyone was a friend. The family is full of precious memories. Shirley is now without a scar or an age mark, absent of loneliness, grey hair and pain. Even in the dark days when all that was weighing on her, Shirley did life with a smile.
She took care of her mom when the time came. They were the few and faithful at the Church of Christ and later at the local Blunt Methodist Church. They served and supported the breakfasts at the Senior Center.
She is survived by sisters in law Naomi (Fred Stuart) and Betty (Jim Stuart) both of Southern California; daughter Julie (Todd) Stickler of Omaha, NE; son Dan (Roxy) Marshall of Agar, SD; grandchildren Miranda (Ryan) Smith, Janelle Beekman (Stickler), Danica (Jon) Hillestad, Jason Stickler, Shona Marshall and Jade (Cody) Shoultz; great grandchildren Damian and Marcus (Smith), Eleanor, Eliza and Rylee (Beekman) and Joseph (Hillestad).
