Shirley Mae Nohl, age 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Julia’s Place. She was born on January 30, 1926 to the late Ernest and Matilda (Metzger) Kellenberger in Elgin, Illinois.

Funeral services for Shirley Nohl of Hancock, MN will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Faith Church, rural Hancock, with the Apostolic Christian Faith Church Ministers officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Shirley’s family moved from Elgin in 1932 to Hancock, Minnesota and back again. Her first real job was a telephone operator at the Elgin Telephone Company. After work, Shirley would head home to help raise numerous brothers and sisters. She loved being the eldest child, setting an enormous example which helped shape her into the mother and grandmother she is today.

Shirley united in marriage on December 26, 1946 to Noah Nohl. The couple lived and farmed in Hancock area for many years. In 1950, Shirley and Noah became members of the Apostolic Christian Church. They retired from farming in 1983 and moved to Morris. The winter months took them to the southern states, Europe, and a couple of cruises.

Shirley was the most caring, sweet natured person, she loved to read, garden, cook, and bake. She would often send Noah out to deliver her lovingly prepared baked goods to friends and neighbors. They spent many evenings visiting the Villa, Skyview, hospitals, or family friends.

Her smile said more than words ever could. Shirley was full of love, and shared it generously with her children and grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and she cherished every moment she was able to spend with them. She taught them how to love unconditionally, take responsibility, go for what they wanted and to push themselves to always do their best.

Shirley spent the last 8 years of her life at Julia’s Place in Hancock, where she and Julia became fast friends. The family wishes to express their gratitude for all the love and care Shirley received over the years.

Shirley is survived by her children, Lois (James) Willert, Betty (Dale) Noordmans, Roy (Ginger) Nohl, and LuJean (Randy) Thielke; daughter-in-law, Tracy Nohl; 17 grandchildren, Michael (Joclyn) Willert, Erik (Mandy) Willert, Sara (Brian) Zimny, Melissa (Jeff) Wehking, Amy (Dan) Johnson, Jason (Alison) Noordmans, Jenny (Ryan) Vine, Terri Jo (Matt) Nesvig, Randee (Brady) Murphy, Justin (Gwen) Thielke, Tony Thielke, Tracy (Chris) Grabowska, Jolynn (Scott) Grabowska, Tara (Zac) Kroells, Jessica (Taylor) Witt, Taylor (Riley) Nohl, and Corey (Morgan) Nohl; 45 great grandchildren, with 2 on the way; siblings, Jean Scheitlin, Ernie (Carol) Kellenberger, John (Kathy) Kellenberger, Sharon (Bill) Carlson, Tom (Terry) Kellenberger, Mark Kellenberger, Lorna (Dale) Erickson; and sister-in-law, Ingrid Kellenberger.
