Shirley Osborn, age 99, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. She lived a long, full life that spanned nearly a century — through the Great Depression, world wars, 19 presidents, the rise of modern technology, and even a global pandemic. Through it all, she remained a bright light to everyone who knew her.
Shirley was the proud mother of seven children: Larry White (Debbie), Peggy Taylor (Lin), Roberta Johns (David), Ada Austin, Lisa Andersen (Mike) and Cynthia Wallin (Sieg). She was a beloved grandmother to 13 grandchildren, including her late grandson, Trent; and leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to ripple through generations.
In addition to her grandson, Shirley was proceeded in death by her husband, Robert James Osborn; brother, Floyd Harris; father, Ewart Harris; mother, Kathleen Harris; grandmother, Ada Harris; and son, Robert James Osborn.
In her early years, Shirley worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company - a fitting career for someone who loved to talk. She stayed connected with her family and friends, often chatting with her loved ones multiple times a day. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, always leaving them smiling with her quick wit and charm.
Shirley spent many years in Las Vegas, where she raised her children and discovered a fondness for the excitement of slot machines. She had a zest for life, a wonderful smile, and a twinkle in her eye that made everyone feel at home in her presence.
Adventurous at heart, Shirley didn’t let her fears hold her back — whether it was rafting, camping, or traveling, she embraced each experience with courage and curiosity. Her warmth, humor, and storytelling will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that her remarkable spirit lives on in every memory shared and every heart she touched.
A memorial gathering with family and friends will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Shirley Osborn will be laid to rest privately.
