Shirley Perdue Obituary
Born on June 14, 1935 in Yoe, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Melvin and Esther R. (Mitzel) Johnson. Shirley was one of seven children, and, with two working parents, she learned at a young age the importance of caring for others while helping to raise her younger siblings – a gift of compassion and giving that would define her life.
At the age of 29, she married her lifelong partner Alfred "Al" Perdue and together they shared 53 years of marriage. She dedicated 35 years of service working for Caterpillar before retiring. In retirement, Shirley could often be found at her favorite local establishments, where she enjoyed talking with owners, patrons, and strangers alike.
She was known by many in York for her loyalty, generosity, easy-going spirit, and her matter-of-fact approach to life. Anyone who met Shirley left with a smile.
Above all else, Shirley loved her family deeply and was immensely proud of them.
She is survived by her children, Scott Perdue (Lisa) and Lisa Wright (Jim); her grandchildren Jordan Perdue (Samantha), Austin Wright (Sabrina), Joshua Perdue, Alex Rhine (Avery), and Danielle Kuehl (Jason); her great-granddaughters Nora, Allie, Adeline, and Ophelia; and her sisters Sandy Psoras and Carolyn Thomason.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, "Al" Perdue; her three brothers Donald J., Walter "Pat" U., and Charles "Truman" Johnson; her sister Gloria Gehman; brother-in-law Sam Psoras; and her nephew Jonathan Psoras.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 9:30AM at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of East York, 3670 E. Market St., York, PA 17402. Interment will be held privately. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 8:30AM – 9:30AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Shirley's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
