Shirley Cecile Robertson (née Ashe), born August 1, 1939, in Saint Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, creativity, and unwavering dedication to her family, community, and the world around her.
Shirley lived an extraordinary life filled with adventure, laughter, and love. A lifelong Floridian, she grew up deeply connected to the Saint Augustine area and surrounding communities. She was a cornerstone of the Orangedale Community Association, where her leadership and passion enriched countless lives. Her commitment to education was recognized when she was named Volunteer of the Year at Hartley Elementary School, reflecting her devotion to helping children thrive.
Shirley built a distinguished career with the Florida National Guard's civil service, where she served with integrity and dedication until her retirement in 1998. In retirement, she continued her passion for fostering connections as a regional coordinator for the EF student exchange program. Over a decade, she opened her home and heart to students from around the globe, creating a welcoming environment filled with kindness, understanding, and lasting friendships.
An avid painter and art lover, Shirley found beauty in the world and expressed it through her vibrant works of art. Her creative spirit extended beyond her canvases, influencing all aspects of her life. She coupled her artistic passion with a love of travel, exploring the world and embracing cultures far and wide. Her global adventures became a source of inspiration for her art and stories, creating cherished memories for herself and those who shared her journeys.
Shirley's life was a testament to the power of service, creativity, and love. She leaves behind a legacy that will forever inspire her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched through her many roles-as a mother, grandmother, painter, traveler, volunteer, mentor, and cherished friend.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the memories she created, the art she shared, and the connections she fostered across the world.
A celebration of Shirley's extraordinary life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Community Hospice or SAFE Pet Rescue.

Shirley was a dog walking friend, we met through our dogs. She had a wealth of knowledge on so many things. I enjoyed visiting with Shirley and Biscuit, looking at her wide array of plants. Two Christmases ago she invited me to a Christmas program downtown in which her granddaughter performed. We miss her, Heidi, Neal and Timmy.
