Shirley Mae Salters, age 84, of Pass Christian, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Audrey Payne; daughter, Jennifer Salters; son, Rowland Salters; father, Thomas Payne; sister, Tommie Lee Seymour; brother, William “Bill” Henry Payne; and partner, Andrew Giaconi.
Shirley is survived by her son, Jeffrey Lee “Jeffro” Salters; daughter, Valerie Marie Smith; sister, Jackie Sibley (Billy deceased); grandchildren, Dustin Saucier (Jenny), Devin Schonewitz (Jessica), and Denzel Payton; and 7 great grandchildren.
Shirley’s love for her family and friends was constant and unmistakable. Her home was always open, and she made sure it was filled with the comforts of food, snacks, and cold drinks—especially for her grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. Whether gathered around a table playing board games, sharing laughs with her sisters, volunteering, or enjoying a day at the casino, Shirley cherished every moment spent with those she loved. She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 77, in Waveland, MS, and carried that sense of service and community into every part of her life.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Jenny, Cindy, Dunbar Village, and the team at Vital Caring Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Shirley’s final months.
A small ceremony with family and friends will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate her life. She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
