Shirley Ann Savoy, 77, passed away peacefully, Wednesday July 2, 2025, at Jeannie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. Shirley was born on September 13,1947 in Lafayette, Louisiana to the late Walter and Felicia (Hypolite) Savoy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:00 am on Saturday. Shirley was raised by her Grandparents Stanley and Albertine (Narcisse) Hypolite and her Aunt Mildred "Mel" Hypolite during her youthful years. Shirley was the first grandchild born. She attended public schools in Parks, La., until her middle school years. She spent her summers in Galveston with her parents as they worked. She finally relocated to Galveston permanently to attend High School. Shirley was a 1965 graduate of Central High School in Galveston, Texas. She retired from John Sealy Hospital as a Phlebotomist and was sought out from the various clinics throughout the hospital for her expertise in drawing blood from patients with difficult veins. Shirley loved spending time with her late daughter Kim Haley, loving grandson Treyvon Lazare and the late Carlyn Hypolite "Junior". She missed her daughter dearly and often reminisced of happier times with them. Shirley was very fond of her devoted cousin Kathy Hypolite, who took exceptional care of her, scheduling appointments, running errands, and attending to her medical needs. She will miss talking to her favorite Aunt "Mel" daily. Shirley enjoyed playing her music loudly on her porch, with her loyal dog "Buddy". She especially loved conversating with her neighbors, Pamela Porch, Brenda Gamble Thomas (best friend), Katherine Gamble, Trevor Trebue, Jessica Carwile, Sissy and Simon, Page, Kate, Dr. Sarah, Kathryne Crain, Aundreana Batiste (care giver), and Mahogany Jones (care giver). Avenue L and 16th street are not just street names, it's a caring neighborhood community, where each neighbor cares about each other. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, grandson Treyvon Lazare, and his father Troy Lazare. Cherished aunts, Mildred Hypolite, Antoinette Hypolite, and Lillie Hypolite. Special circle of cousins, Kathy Hypolite, Gary Hypolite Sr., Calandria Hypolite, Cyrus Hypolite, Valencia Hypolite, Melissa Love, and a host of relatives, neighbors, and friends. Shirley was proceeded in death by her daughter Kimberly Haley, husband Milton Poullard, and parents Walter and Felicia Savoy. The family would also like to thank the medical staff at UTMB on the 8th and 10th floors, and the Sea Breeze Nursing Home, Texas City.
