Shirley A. Smith, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2025. She was born January 12, 1938, in Muskingum County to the late Lawrence and Eula Stallman Garretson. She retired from the Zanesville State Nursery after many years of service and was a member of the Anchor Church.

She is survived by a daughter Tammy (Bill) Devoll; two granddaughters: Ashley (Michael Price) Colley and Erica Devoll; a grandson Matthew (Darci) Devoll; six great grandchildren: Brayden (Kiersten Swingle) Colley, Lanay Krouskoupf, Madison (CJ Dyer) Colley, Kaden Scott, Austen Colley and Iris Devoll; a brother Larry (Donna) Garretson; four sisters: Patty Munyan, Janice Filkens Jean Nicholas and Lois Tabor; two brothers in law: Danny Smith and Dennis Smith; a sister in law Polly Ashcraft; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dwight Smith; three sisters: Betty Lou Garretson, Eloise Spring, and Delma Smith; and four sisters in law: Frances Northrup, Bonnie Fluharty, Georgia Minner and June Cookson.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11AM, Thursday, August 21, 2025, at The Anchor Church, 1365 Chamberlain Street, Zanesville Ohio. Funeral services will begin at 11AM with Pastor Aaron Bounds officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Shirley came into a place I worked. Very nice lady. Always smiling. Imagine my surprise when she brought her sister in and I had been named after her sister but had never met her. Sorry to hear that Delma has passed as well.
