Shirley Robert Prevatte Stevens, a cherished daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Richmond Pines Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Hamlet, North Carolina. Born on May 5, 1935, in Richmond County, North Carolina, she lived a life woven with kindness and love, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Shirley's journey led her through a rich tapestry of career experiences. She dedicated herself to the culinary world, retiring from The Cake Shop, where her passion for baking brought joy to countless customers. Her talents also flourished in the service industry as she worked at the Holiday Restaurant, bringing warmth and comfort to those she served. Her role as a manager at Hungates Arts, Crafts, and Hobbies in Greensboro showcased her creativity and leadership, further enriching her life and the lives of those around her.
A proud high school graduate, Shirley understood the value of education and embraced lifelong learning. However, it was her kindness and loving nature that truly defined her. She was a beacon of warmth and compassion, and her presence was a gift to everyone fortunate enough to share moments with her.
Shirley's legacy is carried on by her devoted daughters, Myra Cobbler (David), Debbie Clayton (Johnny), and Sharon Shelley (Shorty). The love she nurtured is palpable in the hearts of her 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever cherish the memories spent with her. They hold onto the laughter shared, the lessons learned, and the unwavering support she provided throughout her life.
She is predeceased by her loving parents, Robert Prevatte and Gertrude Millen Prevatte, whose nurturing spirits undoubtedly influenced her own tender heart, siblings, Floyd Prevatte, Bobbie Gregory, and Ethel Craven. Shirley lived her life surrounded by the love of family, creating a legacy that shines brightly in the lives of those she leaves behind.
A memorial service to honor the legacy of Shirley will be held at Noon on Monday, November 3, 2025 at Carter Funeral Home Colonial Chapel.
