Shirley Tines, age 64, of Gladbrook, Iowa, passed away in the comfort of her own home on June 9, 2025.
Per Shirley's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a family led celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorials in Shirley's name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Shirley Jean Smith was born March 23, 1961 in Grinnell, Iowa. She was the sixth of nine children born to Harry and Ann (Osmond) Smith. She grew up in the Malcom and Brooklyn area and attended school in Brooklyn graduating in the high school class of 1979.
Shirley had one son, Joshua Johnson whom she raised. She decided to make the venture out of the state of Iowa where she became a resident of Arizona for a brief time before ultimately deciding to move back to Gladbrook in 1985. She began work for a brief time at Westbrook Acres upon her return home. Shirley spent 19 years working for Traer Manufacturing until the time when they shut down their plant. At this time, she went to work for Walmart in Marshalltown. Shirley met Paul Smith and he was truly the love of her life. They began life companions building many cherished memories together. The last few years she spent working in Gladbrook at the local Family Dollar as an Assistant Manager.
In her free time, Shirley enjoyed going out with her family to go fishing. working on various crocheting projects, reading, playing various computer games, spending time with her granddaughters and bowling in her younger years.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Smith; her children, Josh Johnson, Keya (Brett) Thomsen and Jedidiah Smith; granddaughters Sydney Thomsen and Katherine Smith; her siblings, Becky (Mitch) Smothers, Jim (Paula) Smith, John (Pennie) Smith alongside numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ann Smith; her siblings, Harry Smith, Kathy Foster and Tom Smith; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
