Vernon Tines Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch on Apr. 29, 2023.
Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch
Vernon Eugene Tines went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday evening after a month of hospitalization. He was born in Madison Co., TN to the late Odis Linton Tines and Rosie Lewis Houston Tines. The family moved to Nashville where he attended Central High School and stayed until 1964, when he was transferred to Florida by National Bronze Co. where he was a certified molder.
Vernon was preceded in death by his two brothers, Albert Troy Tines and William Dennis Tines.
He is survived by two sons, Vernon (Butch) Eugene Tines, Jr. (Janet) of Memphis, TN and Philip Alan Tines (Sharon) of Lebanon, MO and daughter, Terri Lynn Tines of Fletcher, NC. Mr. Tines "Pop" is survived by four grandchildren, Gina Nichole Tines, Lauren Rene Tines, Eric Coleman Tines and Autumn Nicole Tines.
Captain Vernon Tines is a retired pilot with Northwest Airlines. He began his airline flight career in the late 1960's with Southern Airways, through mergers became Republic, then Northwest. This employment brought him to Memphis. Much of his travels were riding on a motorcycle with a group of close friends across the United States.
Vernon loved music. He played guitar, sang and wrote songs as well. Most mornings, you could listen to him on Facebook. In addition, he and Butch enjoyed brightening the spirits of residents at nursing homes with their music and kindness.
Vernon spent the last thirty years living in Byhalia, MS until last summer moving in with his son, Butch, Janet, Eric and canine friend, Toby. He was happy in their home.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon at Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon.
In lieu of traditional flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Agape Child and Family Services (3160 Directors Row, Memphis, TN 38131) www.agapemeanslove.org or St Jude Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org.

This is Eric Himmelreich , Capt H´s son. Vernon used to come to our house and play and sing songs w Cliff Albright and my Dad would record them. As a young man I really didn´t get the kind of stuff they were playing. Years later when I picked up the guitar the wonders of his music just went straight to my soul .. and my funny bone! Vernon was so kind to me at my Dads memorial and we talked music for quite a while!!! All my pilot patients get to hear Vernon´s airplane songs and they all bring the CD back just amazed at his music and how he captured the nuances of being a commercial pilot!! Vernon has a place in my heart and mind and I´m so glad I got to know him !!

Vernon came to our house w his guitar and sang the night away w a group of Southern Airways Pilots!! At the time I had long hair and only liked electrified music and didn´t realize what a gem
Of a man and a Muscian he was!! He was gracious , kind and we became reacquainted when my father started playing his CD´s . My family thought the world of Capt Tines and was so glad to
See him
At my Dads celebration of life!! Eric W Himmelreich.. and I know he´s flying around w the angels!!!!

So sad to hear about the passing of Vernon Tines. I too enjoyed hearing him sing the Martin 404 song and looked forward to him singing at the Southern Airlines luncheons. He was such a talented and nice person to know. My sincere prayers and condolences to his family and friends.

Every time I play "The Martin 404" song on my guitar it´s impossible to NOT think about Cliff Albright and Vernon Tines. I will continue to play it (most requested song) and will think about Vernon every single time! God Bless you and your family.
