Shirley Ann Veer, 86, of Freeport, IL, passed away Wednesday July 24, 2024 at home surrounded by her family. She was born December 6, 1937 in Lena, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Thelma Lucille (Frederick) Holland. Shirley married Ernest "Ernie" Arthur Veer on May 8, 1955 in Freeport, IL. For over 25 years, Shirley and her husband have been members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Freeport. Her employment included 21 years at Honeywell and 15 years at CVS. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband Ernie of Freeport, IL; six children, Lucille "Lucy" (Michael) Cali of Freeport, IL, Ernest Charles "Chuck" (Tammy) Veer, Melodie Strong of Freeport, IL, Duayne Veer of Freeport, IL, Sherrie (Jeff) Willis of Freeport, IL, and Loretta "Lori" (Robert) Rundall of Freeport, IL; four siblings, Carol (Paul) Detwiler, Marilyn (David) Van Drew, Kathryn Slaght, and Kenneth Holland, all of Freeport, IL; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding Shirley in death are her parents, brother John Holland, son-in-law Rodney Strong, brother-in-law John Slaght, and three grandchildren, Robert Strong, John Willis and Lisa MacQueen.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday July 29, 2024 at the First Church of Nazarene with Pastor Rachel Smith officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Shirley's memory.
