Shirley White Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 11, 2022.
Shirley Black White was born in Waelder, Texas, to the parentage of Buck Black and Lutishue Jones on November 11, 1945. She was the sister to eight siblings: five sisters and three brothers. She attended Armstrong Colony Baptist Church and at the age of 10 she gave her life to Christ. She spent her younger years living in Flatonia, Texas, later moving to Bastrop, Texas, where she graduated from Emile High School in 1964. As a young girl, Shirley was very determined and knew her life was bigger than Bastrop. Shirley attended Delgado Community College in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she received her Associate Degree in Business Administration in 1982. She also attended Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1995.
Shirley Black White married Walter L. Greene, Jr. on June 1, 1964, and to this union, two children were born: Walter L. Greene III and Sonji L. Brown. Shirley later joined in marriage to Gordan White. Shirley was a woman full of knowledge and wisdom. She started her career in Germany in 1987 as a Management Assistant for the Department of Defense. She later moved to an officer manager for the Office of Military Cooperation, U.S Embassy in Gaborone, Botswana, from 1990 to 1992. In 1995 she was hired with the U.S Department of State in Washington, D.C. She spent her U.S Department of State Foreign Service Career supporting and managing logistics and resources as a General Services Specialist. She was an integral part of the embassies she served, working to provide vital housing, transportation and other administrative services that ensured positive morale and the safety of U.S employees and local staff. Exhibiting superb interpersonal skills and commitment to excellence, Shirley was respected and cherished by the many lives she impacted. While working, Shirley continued her education, developing the skills to speak eleven different languages. Shirley did what she loved to do. She helped people and traveled the world.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, her only living brother, Buck Black, Jr.; her son-in-law, Charles Brown; her daughter-in-law, Tanya Henson; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren in which she loved dearly.
She will now join one great-grandchild, Saniyah J. Ellison; her mother and father; and her siblings: Dan, Cecile, Molly, Joann, Easter, Eliza and Louis.

We arrived at the Embassy in Botswana around the same time in 1989. I loved her dearly. One of the best friends I´ve ever had. I miss her and I´m so sorry to hear of her passing.
