Shon Robert Edwards

Shon Robert Edwards passed away of natural causes on Thursday, September 18, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 25, 1966, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is preceded in death by his mother, Deanna Mae Pratt.

Shon grew up in Normal, Illinois. He had many fun adventures with his younger brothers and friends. Shon was very creative and made many home movie versions of Star Trek stories, getting his brothers and friends to help act them out.

At the age of 12, his family moved back to Utah. Shon attended Timpview High School and fell in love with learning languages. He gained mastery of numerous languages throughout his lifetime.

Shon served a full-time mission to Bristol, England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his mission Shon attended Brigham Young University earning a bachelor’s degree in German and a master’s degree in Computational Linguistics. Shon also loved doing genealogy work from a young age and became very proficient at it.

Shon loved hiking and being outdoors. He spent several summers working at Bryce Canyon National Park where he made lifelong friends and enjoyed many outdoor adventures.

Shon married Roya Farvid in 1994. They raised four sons and a daughter together. They recently became grandparents of a sweet grandson and will soon be blessed with a new granddaughter.

Shon used his love of genealogy and his talent for languages in his life’s career working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Family History Library. He was a Librarian Cataloger of genealogical records that were mainly from Eastern Europe. He also became an accredited genealogist in Czech research.

Shon was very loving and friendly. He loved the Savior and his family and friends very deeply. He also loved getting to know people of all countries and cultures and had many international friendships. He was always ready to help anybody with their genealogy and loved doing it. He had many special experiences in his life while doing that meaningful work.

Shon is survived by his father, Clifford Edwards; his brothers: Jeff (Laurie), Steve (Sandra), and Eric. He is also survived by his spouse, Roya; his children: James (Melissa), Jared, Seth (Elizabeth), Isaac, and Brynia, and his grandson, Joseph.

Services will be held at the Windsor Meadows ward building, 2800 W. Gordon Avenue, Layton, Utah, on Saturday, September 27, 2025. There will be a viewing from 10:00-10:45 AM followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM. Graveside service will be held at the Whitney, Idaho Cemetery at 2:15 PM.
