Silas E. Ryan, a cherished member of the Louisville community, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, at the age of 91, with his devoted wife, Pearl Catherine Ryan, by his side. Born on September 9, 1933, in Louisville, KY, Si embodied the traits of a devoted husband, loving father, compassionate grandfather, and loyal friend throughout his life.
A proud alumnus of Male High School, Si continued his educational journey at the University of Louisville, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. His professional career included a notable tenure as a salesman for the Nationwide Paper Company, where he was admired for his skill and dedication.
Si's commitment to service extended beyond his career; he was also a proud member of the United States Air Force, reflecting his deep sense of duty to his country.
His passions were deeply rooted in family life. He relished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout his life, Si was an ardent supporter of his favorite team, the University of Louisville Cardinals, often seen enthusiastically cheering them on.
Si's legacy is cherished by his loving family: his wife, Pearl Catherine Ryan; children, Karen L. Early (Roger), and Sharon M. Raque (Lynn), Rick E. Ryan (Sandy) and Jeanie S. Whatley (David) and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Brad Early, Crystal Joice (Tim), Brooke Rohrs (Matt), Lindsey Dougherty (Vince), Taylor McLain (Phillip), Jordan Ryan, Ryan Whatley (Alicia), and Ian Whatley. His great-grandchildren include Avery Early, Ethan Joice, Caleb Joice, Blake Rohrs, Jacob Rohrs, Brennan Rohrs, AdeLynn Dougherty, Tucker Dougherty, Ada McLain, and Hayden Whatley. As well as, his brother, Richard F. Ryan (Candy) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Si was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Ryan; mother, Nellie Lee Ryan; sister, Dorothy Davis; and sister, Margaret Hood, who all held a special place in his heart.
Visitation for Si will be held on September 17, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243. A funeral service will take place the following day, September 18, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Southeast Christian Church, 920 Blankenbaker Pkwy, Louisville, KY 40243. Following the service, a burial will be held at Louisville Memorial Gardens West, 4400 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40216, commencing at 12:00 PM.
Si will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and friends, as well as his enduring spirit and legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
