New Iberia, LA – A home-going memorial service for Mr. Sidney "Lou" Latulas will be held at 11:00 A.M. on March 11, 2023, at Fletcher Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Collins, III, officiating.
Inurnment will be held on a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Fletcher Funeral Home on Saturday, March 11, 2023, beginning at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the memorial service.
Mr. Sidney Latulas gained his wings after a brief illness, at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, The Woodlands, TX on Friday, February 17, 2023.
Sidney "Lou" Latulas, was born October 2, 1953, to the late Irving Sr. and Lilly Mae (Brown) Latulas. He graduated from New Iberia Senior High, class of 1972. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Loreauville, LA, where he was a member of the Men's Chorus. He traveled and performed at various churches. He worked at International Salt Mine/Akzo Salt and Cargill for a total of 32 years where he retired. After retiring, he began working various jobs to keep busy. He relocated to Ocala, Florida where he worked for Strickland Farms traveling racing horses' cross country for several years. He returned home to New Iberia per his mom's request. He landed a wonderful job with Fremin's Food & Furniture where they loved him dearly. He expanded his job duties to any and everything they asked if he could do it; it was done. He drove tractor hauling sugar cane during sugar cane season for the Broussard'. He looked forward to each year. Sidney loved horses from childhood. He endured a few scars from the horses being bitten on the ear, to having his foot stumped on, but his love never wavered for them. He owned several racehorses, to recently becoming the owner of "T.J. Sunshine", where he raced at Evangeline and Delta Downs.
Sidney is survived by and leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted and beloved daughter: Elayna (Latulas) Joe (Wayne); two grandchildren: Jenay Joe and Wynston Joe; two sisters: Betty Latulas Dupree (Joseph) and Clara Derouen; two brothers: Cleveland Latulas (Rita) and Michael Latulas (Tracy); his special goddaughter: Mary Estelle Latulas (Dexter); godchildren: Steven Latulas (Kaysha), Justin Worick, and Miracle Latulas; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Irving Latulas Sr.; his mother: Lilly Mae (Brown) Latulas; his brother: Irving William Latulas, Jr; sister-in-law: Mary Louise Latulas; paternal grandparents: Wilson and Virginia Latulas; maternal grandparents: Nick and Julia Brown.
