Sidney "Sid" Leeds, 91, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Sidney was the son of the late Rodney and Thelma Leeds. He graduated from Passaic Valley High School in 1950 and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Upsala College in East Orange, NJ, and a Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York City. After college, Sidney proudly served his country in the United States Army in Germany.
Following his military service, Sidney embarked on a successful career as a Buyer for Western Electric a subsidiary of AT&T for over 30 years before retiring in 1990.
Sidney was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to 14 great-grandchildren.
He could build and repair anything, loved playing golf and traveling.
He enjoyed his Lake Norman get-a-way plus wintering in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida.
He was a devoted Christian and a a long-time member of St John's Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry and as Sunday School Superintendent.
His quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and playful sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Sidney is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Lois; his children, Robert Leeds (Melissa) of Bahama, NC, and Peter Leeds (Donna) of Charlotte, NC, and Patty Powell (Bill) of Weddington, NC and his grandchildren, Morgan, Camille (Greg), Tess (Jeff), Amy (Matt), Spencer (Esther), Brooke (Andrew), Casey (Aaron), Tyler (Natalie). Matthew (BreeAnn), Michael (Sarah) and Russ.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM at St Johns Episcopal Church, 1623 Carmel Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A private burial service will follow at St Johns Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sidney's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The Levine-Dickson Hospice at Southminster, and St Johns Episcopal Church
