Sofia Varahidis

Sofia was born May 4th, 1924, in Florina, Greece, she spent the last 13 years living with her children in Rochester NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Christoforos Varahidis; and her 5 younger siblings, Marika, Nopi, Dimitrios, Christos and Lizzy. Sofia is survived by her beloved children, Elizabeth (Constantinos) Zissis, Maria (Dimitrios) Mihalitsas and Kostantinos (Zoi) Varahidis; her 7 granddaughters, Alexandra, Sophia, Julie, Maria, Sophia, Thalia, and Jackie and their families which included husbands, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a wonderful homemaker, a seamstress in her younger days for her family. She learned the trade from her tailor uncle in Athens at the age of 16. She loved life and her beautiful family. She had a heart of gold and wanted to live to be 101. God granted her wish as she passed away on her birthday May 4, 2025 of natural causes. She was a beautiful soul and will be truly missed by all who had the honor to know her.
Family and friends may call at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Rochester, 962 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607, Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, where her Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Henrietta, New York. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Rochester in Sofia's memory.
