Sonja Marie Vogel

Sonja Marie Vogel, 83, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on January 15, 2024, in Chanute, Kansas. Sonja was born on October 5, 1940, to Lyle and Esther (Bredemeier) Sanders. She was a beloved member of her community. She was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Roland Vogel, whom she was united in marriage to on September 13, 1959, in Marion, Kansas. Sonja will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Sonja had a vibrant personality and a wide range of interests. She had a passion for collecting cookbooks and enjoyed camping. Sonja was an avid fan of the Chiefs and Jayhawks. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies and great grandbabies.
Sonja is survived by her children, Douglas Vogel (Jennifer) of Chanute, Kansas, and Debbie Finley (Greg) of Chanute, Kansas. She is also survived by her brother, Harvey Sanders (Betty) of Marion, Kansas, and sister, Frances Sanders of Newton, Kansas. Sonja's memory will be carried on by her grandchildren: Eric Vogel (Niccole), Larry Finley (Abbey), Holly Olson (Tray), Denton Decker (Chelsie), and Danae Decker (Jeff). Additionally, she will be fondly remembered by her great-grandchildren: Radlee, Bowen, Atlas, Keely, Emrie, Saint, and Ellasyn. Sonja also leaves behind many great-nieces and nephews.
Sonja was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Sonja graduated from Marion High School in 1959. Throughout her career, she worked at JCPenney's, First National Bank, and retired from Home Savings Bank. Sonja also served as the Treasurer of Soupline for several years, demonstrating her dedication to her community. She was a member of WOW ladies.
A gathering to celebrate Sonja's life will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Momma V's house, come and go from 1-5 pm. The family invites all who knew and loved Sonja to join them on this day of remembrance.
Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Hospice and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
Services are under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 500 North Forest, Chanute, Kansas.
Sonja Marie Vogel will forever be remembered for her loving nature, zest for life, and devotion to her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
