Soonchae Herzer

Soonchae (Josie) Herzer, age 94, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully in Telford, PA on November 4, 2025. She was born on September 9, 1931, in Shin-We-Joo, North Korea. In 1947, Josie fled the communist regime, displaying remarkable courage as she sought a better life. She continued her education in Seoul, South Korea, and made the journey to the United States in 1955, where she would go on to make a lasting impact on those around her.
Josie retired from Bristol Myers Squibb in 1991 after a successful career. A devoted member of Olivet Evangelical Presbyterian Church, she served on the Board of Deacons and was actively involved in numerous mission trips and church youth camps, demonstrating her commitment to community service and faith.
Her dedication extended beyond her church; she was also a valued member of the Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary, as well as the Fendrich Ladies 18-Hole and 9-Hole Golf Leagues and the Helfrich Ladies 18-Hole Golf League. Josie loved playing golf and hanging out with her fellow golfers. She had a passion for watching sports, bringing joy and enthusiasm to games with her family and friends.
Josie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald C. Herzer (November 1999), as well as her parents and siblings. She is survived by her three children, David K. Herzer, Mark A. Herzer (Martha), and Thomas W. Herzer (Stephanie), along with eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on December 5th from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at Browning Funeral Home, located at 738 E. Diamond Ave in Evansville.
