Sophia Jordan Williams Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Sophia Davette Jordan Williams, age 59, of Orange, New Jersey, peacefully transitioned from this life on September 17, 2025.
Sophia was born on December 4, 1965, at St. Michael's Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, to Ms. Johnniemae Doss and the late David Maurice Jordan Sr.
Sophia was a proud graduate of Orange High School. She went on to further her education at Drake Business School and Empire Technical School, both located in East Orange, New Jersey.
Sophia began her professional career at Harvard Printing Company in Orange, where she dedicated 15 years of service. She later explored the medical field briefly before discovering her true passion for the Mortgage Banking industry. Over two decades, she built a successful career collaborating with companies such as MBNA, Bank of America, and LoanCare LLC, before retiring in 2023.
Sophia received Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior at a youthful age and had become a devoted woman of faith. She was actively involved in ministry throughout her life. She served in multiple areas such as the usher board, choir, hospitality, and outreach ministries at several churches, including Evangelistic Deliverance Center (Newark, NJ), Love of Jesus (Newark, NJ), Garden of Prayer (Norfolk, VA), and Jesus Alternative Ministries (Irvington, NJ).
Sophia was known for her vibrant spirit and generous heart. She had a deep love for helping others and enjoyed the simple joys of life-hosting gatherings ("Ya'll coming over?"), spontaneous getaways ("I felt like getting away"), enjoying delicious food ("I got a taste for some fried chicken fresh out the grease"), visiting the shore ("I need to put my feet in some water"), exploring farms ("I wanted some fresh fruit"), and surrounding herself with fresh flowers ("They make the house feel good").
Sophia leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. Cherishing her memory are her beloved mother, Ms. Johnniemae Doss; son, Lavarius Varian Jordan; her grandsons, Arian Jordan and Elijah Jordan; her siblings, Cynthia Jordan Dunn, David Jordan Jr., and Maurice Jordan Sr.; her aunts, Bertha Westbrook and Gladys Tucker; and a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, extended family, and dear friends.
Sophia's light, laughter, and love will live on in all who knew her.
