Stanford L. "Stan" Cluff of Middletown, DE, was called home to The Lord on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. Stan was born October 4, 1945 in Federalsburg, MD, the seventh child of the late Bessie C. and Stanford S. Cluff.
Stan graduated from Lockerman High School in Denton, MD in 1964. After graduation, Stan enlisted into the U.S. Army. After serving his country, he worked various jobs near his home, but knew in his heart he was destined for success. Stan moved to Delaware and began working for Diamond Shamrock/Oxy Chemical for 30+ years. After his hard work and dedication, Stan decided to retire and began enjoying life.
Stan met and married his true love, Carol D. Cluff in 1970. They spent 55 wonderful years together. They enjoyed traveling, cruising, family gatherings and conversing with family and friends. Stan enjoyed visiting The Family Farm in Federalsburg, MD. He loved fast cars, race cars, tinkering with small engines, hunting, motorcycle riding, and researching. He was a true die-hard Redskins (Commanders) and Baltimore Orioles fan. He often said if you're a true fan, you will be there in good times and bad times. So, no matter whether his teams won or lost, he still supported them. He always enjoyed taking on projects in his home and would never leave a project unfinished. Stan would help anyone who needed assistance without hesitation. No matter the size of the project was too big or too small.
Stan was easy going, patient, a good listener, with a wealth of knowledge and loved by all. Everyone that knew him loved him and can share a story about how he influenced or encouraged them to become better. Stan supported his family and found beauty in everyone.
In love, he leaves cherishing his memories, his wife, Carol of 55 years; 4 children, Demetrius Joyner, Quenna Neal (James), Christopher Joyner (Faith), and Elizabeth Cluff-Watson (Irvin); grandchildren, Brian, Trina, Kevin, Aisha, Michael, Demetria, Demetrie, Christine, Crystal, and Savannah; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Bessie Cluff of Federalsburg, MD, Gladys Cluff-Cunningham of Oakdale, CA; sisters-in-law, Ann Lee of Southport, NC and Victoria Cluff of Trappe, MD; and brothers-in-law, Marcus Moore (Connie) and Donnie Joyner (Terri). Stan will forever be loved and missed.
In addition to his parents, Stan is preceded in death by his siblings, Sally, Sarah, Robert, James, Charles, William and Warner Cluff and granddaughter, Janeal.
A viewing for family and friends will be held from 12 pm until 2 pm on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. Following the viewing, a celebration of life will be held from 2 pm until 5 pm, at Delaware City Fire Company, 815 5 Street, Delaware City, DE 19706. A committal service will begin at 1 pm on Friday, June 27, 2025, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

Uncle Stan is truly one of a kind. He stands apart from others not just because of who he is, but because of the way he consistently shows up for others. Beyond being a father to his own children, he has been a father figure to many more-offering guidance, support, and care to anyone in need. He always made time to help, no matter how busy life got. -Love

On behalf of the original Cluff Family (only Gladys and Bessie left). We had a wonderful brother always giving advice about houses, cars and life. We always said why reinvent the wheel just call Stan because he had already done it. He will truly be missed but will forever be in our hearts and memories. As he always said "a mind is a terrible thing to waste"or "I know you have bumped your head". Gladys and Bessie

Q

I was so sorry to hear of your dads passing. You dad and mom were both kind to me during your birthday party. Keep his memory close to your heart.
