Palm Harbor, Florida – Stanley Richard Nack Sr., 92, a longtime Dutchess County resident, most recently residing in Palm Harbor, Florida passed away peacefully at the AccentCare Hospice Center in Dunedin, Florida on August 30, 2024.
Born January 10, 1932, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Stanley H. and Florence T. McCord Nack. He attended Arlington High School before entering the United States Air Force. He proudly served during the Korean War.
Stanley worked for New York State in various HVAC related work before retiring in 1990. In his retirement, he began working as a part-time security guard at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. He eventually became a full-time guard and retired as Chief of Security in 1997.
Mr. Nack's interests and hobbies were wide ranging. He had a lifelong passion for flying and even owned an airplane at one time, trained show dogs, was a Boy Scout Leader, and a ham radio operator. He enjoyed bowling (in the former Bridge City Bowling League),hunting, fishing, archery, building and flying radio-controlled model airplanes, woodworking, home beer brewing, cooking, and baking. Stanley also enjoyed motorcycle touring with his partner, Carol, and had a lot of fun while doing it!
Stanley was a Shriner, and member of Shekomeko Lodge #458 F & AM, the Experimental Aircraft Association, and American Legion Pleasant Valley Post # 0739. He was also a former volunteer firefighter with the Hyde Park Fire Department and captain of the rescue squad.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Carol L. Howard, of Palm Harbor, FL; son, Stanley Nack Jr. and wife, Arlene, of La Puenta, CA; grandchildren, Anthony Nack and Erica Cobb; and great-grandson, Anthony Nack.
Stanley is also survived by Carol's children, Adrienne Zeigler of Palm Harbor, FL and David Howard (Gioia) of Newport News, VA; grandchildren, Rick Betancourt (Melissa) of Franklin Square, Long Island and Sarah Zeigler of Danbury, CT; and great grandchildren, Nicholas, Cristiano, Alessandra, and Amelia Betancourt.
He was predeceased by his son, Eric Nack, in 1991, and his former wife, Mary Nack, in 2015.
A period of visitation will take place from 11 AM to 1 PM, Sept. 12th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A funeral service will follow at 1 PM with Rev. Jan Fritzinger officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
In lieu of flowers, Stanley's family respectfully request memorials donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 (www.woundedwarriorproject.org), or your local animal shelter.
