Stanley was born on October 13, 1927 to Stanley Benevides Parsons and Frances Petit Parsons in Quincy, Illinois. Growing up, he lived in several Northeast Missouri towns, graduating from Marceline High School.

Drafted as a college student at the University of Missouri Columbia, Stan's adventure began.

After serving in Japan with the Army of Occupation, Stan completed his degree, later earning a Master's degree from the University of South Dakota and a Ph.d from the University of Iowa, accepting a position in the history department at UMKC, where he taught for many years.

Stan was a father, grandfather and great grandfather, friend, college professor, prolific writer, Pulitzer Prize nominee, expert of American Populism, Eagle scout, scout leader, member of the Order of the Arrow, and an honorary warrior in the tribe of the Mic-O-Say, two time Fulbright scholar, sail boat racer, master gardener, WWI scholar and volunteer at the National World War I Museum. Stan had great curiosity and enthusiasm for life.

He is survived by his three sons, Stanley Black Parsons (Susan), William Parsons (Patricia), David Parsons, and his beloved companion, Pamela Walther, his two grandchildren, Nic Parsons (Helene) and Willow Parsons. Last but not least is Rye, his talented and amazing great grandson. The family would like to thank Alfred Appiah, Hymie Tedela and Zee for their exceptional care.

Stan did not want a funeral but asked that everyone stay curious and make the most of their time on earth and contribute to the the charity of their choice if they desire.
