Stanley Bolton Roberts

Stanley Bolton Roberts passed away peacefully at his home and in the presence of his children on Saturday, December 13, just two weeks shy of his 95th birthday.

Stan was born in Ogden, Utah on December 28, 1930, the fifth of seven children to Milford and Iona Roberts. He spent his childhood in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School and attending Weber State University, earning his Associates degree with high honors in 1950, followed by a Bachelors degree with high honors in mathematics and physics from Brigham Young University in 1957. During college, Stan shared his beautiful singing voice with many, performing in a quartet that traveled to and entertained crowds in various US national parks.

Between Stan's two chapters in higher education, he served for 30 months in New Zealand as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and then for two years as an intelligence officer in the US Army, serving in Seoul, Korea after the signing of the armistice in the Korean war.

Upon the completion of his LDS mission, Stan's parents received a letter from his mission president that contains words that characterize the central value by which he led his life. He said that Stan is "one who demonstrates so beautifully the seed that has been implanted in his heart, by which all things become secondary to duty."

Stan met his wife-to-be, Donna Miller, in 1958 while a student at BYU, attracting her attention with his flashy new Ford convertible. Their love developed quickly, and they were married on August 20th of that same year. They were blessed with three children, Scott, Curtis, and Stacie. They remained faithfully and happily married until Donna's death in October, 2020. After Donna's death, Stan moved to Fairfield Village in Layton, where he became a social fixture in that community, knowing the names of all of the staff and residents. He will be terribly missed by the friends he made there, especially his puzzle-making buddies.

Stan's professional life capitalized on his expertise in engineering and physics, first with Marquardt Corporation as an engineering leader on ramjet engines. He spent most of his career with Defense Depot Ogden, leading a large computing and data storage team. To his children, his advanced expertise in the early days of computing was a stark contrast with the challenge of operating his iPhone, where he ultimately learned FaceTime but could never quite figure out text messaging.

Stan loved serving in church in various callings throughout his life, including as a counselor in a bishopric. After retirement, he and Donna worked as hospitality hosts at the church's Salt Lake Conference Center, an assignment that they truly loved. He also volunteered countless hours at McKay Dee Hospital at the valet desk.

In Stan's retirement, he and Donna loved two things more than any others: travel (especially cruising) and attending their grandchildren's extracurricular events. His children and grandchildren can hardly remember any important event that they missed.

Stan is survived by his sister, Jeniel; his children, Scott (Jenny), Curtis (Sophia) and Stacie Petersen (Ron); and 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

A public viewing will be held Saturday, December 20 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary at 250 North Fairfield Road in Layton, Utah, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Syracuse Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.

Those who knew and loved Stanley are invited to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page at: www.myers-mortuary.com Your stories, pictures, and moments will help carry forward her legacy-a legacy of joy, generosity, faith, love and family.
